Marion City Council
The Marion City Council is the City's legislative body, with the power to enact and enforce all ordinances and resolutions. Two of the four Council members are elected every two years by the city at large. The four members of Council, along with the Mayor, take action by ordinance, resolution or motion. They adopt and may alter the annual budget and confirm the Mayor's appointments. The Council is responsible for the appropriation and issuance of bonds, the awarding of contracts and the approval of City expenditures. Council may lease or dispose of the City's real estate and may levy assessments against property. City Council Meetings are held every other Monday at 4:30pm in the City Council Meeting Room at 203 N. Third Street. City Council Meetings are open to the public. The Marion City Council positions held by Councilman Holdeman and Councilman Smith come up for election in April of 2012. Councilman Bill Holdeman was re-elected to the Marion City Council in April of 2006. He is a WWII veteran and a lifetime member in VFW, Legion and DAV. He has been a barber for 51 years and is still working. He and his wife Feebie have 5 children and 10 grandchildren. Councilman Steve Smith
Councilman Steve Smith was elected to the Marion City Council in April of 2008. Steve was born in Emporia Kansas and moved to Marion while still attending grade school. His father, Wint Smith, owned and operated Wint’s 66 here in Marion. He graduated from Marion High School in 1976 and went to work for Marion Auto Supply. He began volunteering for Marion County EMS in 1994 and was recently hired as the Marion County Emergency Services Director, which he enjoys very much. He is married to Stacie who works with him on the ambulance as an EMT-I. He has two sons, Trevor and Tyler , three stepchildren Megan, Cory and Zach , and a grandson Eldon. He will always consider Marion his home. Councilman Chris Meirhoff
